Why do I keep downloading the same email messages?

This is a common problem when a computer has McAfee or Norton email protection installed. We have not experienced this issue with other email virus/spam protection software but it is possible that this can occur with other such software.

The problem is that when email is downloaded, the protocol requires that all email be downloaded before the email is deleted off the server. In the event that there is a disruption to the download all messages will not be downloaded. The next time that your system connects to download your email it will download the same messages again, likely failing at the same "bad" message and the cycle will continue until one of these solutions is put in place.

You can select from one of the two following possible solutions;
1. Disable the virus protection software prior to the email download. Once you have all email messages, re-enable the virus protection. Be aware though that you will be downloading a message that was not handled properly by the very software you are using to protect your machine.

2. Connect through the web interface at http://mail.tomahawk.ca and delete the message which is causing the error. The message will be easy to identify as it will be the message right after the last message that you are continuing to download. So, if you are receiving 5 messages over and over again you will need to delete message #6 through the web interface.

Once you have implemented either one of these solutions you should be able to download all of your email without issue.
